08:14 pm - Maggie and I are TV stars!!!
Well, we went to see one anyway. We were part of Martha Stewart's Baby show and they got some good shots of Mags, - at least one that I know of and the camera was on her crawling around.
If you want to see:
tune into NBC (channel 4) on Thursday sept 27th at 1pm. Maggie is in a red overall jumper (thanks M!) and I'm in a brown sweater. We were seated second row from the back, center-ish and Celeste and her baby Olivia came with. Celeste was in the little baby play area at the beginning of the show (wearing orange flower sweater) and Olivia has a pink shirt on and brown skirt. we were down there later.
We got to get up and explore the set a bit while they taped and all the babies were all over. it was really cute. The show was a bit boring though...
anyway, I'm exhausted. my arms hurt from carrying her all day, the 50lb diaper bag and the huge bag of stuff we got from the show. Maggie seemed to enjoy her first train ride and trip to the city. Fun day :)

02:44 pm - Maggie Elizabeth
She's finally here. Whoo hoo! I love not being pregnant again -- although I still feel like a bus ran me over, things are starting to de-swell a bit.
Maggie Elizabeth Stolberg
Born Wednesday, January 24th, 2007
8lbs, 9oz at 9:17pm
20.5 inches long
She has changed so much in just under 2 weeks. She looks like a little human now. Life has changed as I know it and I am on another planet. It is amazing, falling in love with her. I know this is really cheezy, but I guess thats what happens on planet Gouda. I love the little sucking noises she makes after eating and the one little cry in the middle of a dream. And when she's really hungry, she tries to eat everything her mouth can reach, including your face. The random smiles she makes are the best and sometimes she just stares right back at me, like she knows what I'm thinking.
And after the eternity of the pregnancy rollercoaster (and now, the exhaustion, mood swings, and frustration)- I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

08:56 pm - yick
I've been meaning to write... really. It stinks though, I'm not feeling so wonderful at the moment so this entry may not be so perky. Baby is thrashing about though, right now, so I always enjoy that. It's hard to appreciate the feeling when you're not feeling good and you want peace and quiet. Maybe she's playing with my organs to make me feel better ;)
Yesterday was the twin's christening which was cute and fun and I love my Goddaughters and all of the above, but Gianna has pink eye and I'm feeling a bit itchy today on top of this exhausted, worn down feeling. I woke up at 530 when H had to leave for work and thought I had the flu - dizzy, hot. But, they went away and I had no fever so I'm blaming my symptoms on pregnancy, the weather and poor sleeping. I don't feel flu anymore, just mild yickiness.
Thanksgiving is this week and I realized I've been wishing the days away since morning sickness. I want to make a conscious effort to enjoy the holiday season and the end of my pregnancy. I Hope everyone feels thankful this week. My hormones make life so dramatic so I'm thankful 10 fold or more.
"tis the season for schmultz. bring it on.

I brought home a shiny spankin new 15" MacBookPro today and cannot get over the size of the screen. (I'm used to my little 12" baby). So, I have to transfer my life from one computer to another but I now have a screen - better to see you with my dear. One can't imagine the upgradedness I feel with fancy features. Come over and play with me!

09:03 pm - employed me
I got a job. yep. as a photographer
I will be taking pictures of local sports teams (mostly kids) and other organizations in the area. I finished three days of training and it's pretty cool so far. They trained 20 of us as level 1 photographers (mostly outdoor stuff), but also asked me and this other girl Jen to get advanced training for level 2 -- indoor and such. The two of us are also picking up a lot more hours (it's an hourly job) working in the office handling the equipment and photos. So, it's pretty much full time for a while. But its also kinda seasonal, following the nature of sports seasons. So, I figure I'll give it till July --the first lull-- and see how it goes and how much money I'm making!
The dress code is casual, the people are cool, and I get to be outside a lot.

09:31 am - Rice and beans, Rice and Jesus
I know I've said this before, but I really am thrown off by Anne Rice's move to preach religion. Her new book is the story of Jesus at 7 years old. My first thought is that 500 years from now, someone is going to find this and call it a religious text. A missing link to the bible, if you will. Billions of Catholics will pawn over every word, preachers will shout the story every Sunday, and the crazies will stand on benches on the subway reading it to the masses.
Rice started with soft core porn. Great, I love dirty books. And, I will forever be attached to Lestat. But, somehow thinking back on her words, they are changed somehow. I don't know why. Even when I watch Interview, this Catholic cloud hangs over. Is this bad? Am I being a blasphomist? (sp) I can imagine her new books are just as captivating. She uses her talents that made us believe in Vampires and Witches to now believe in the child Christ. I don't think I'll read it.
She is being interviewed on CBS Sunday Morning right now (love this show). She says she gets a lot of critical mail for preaching Catholisism and loving her gay son. Ugh, this world is so bazaar.

04:48 pm - ah, lindy.
I was rummaging through the closet at mom's house and found a bunch of HS photos... and then some. I love memory rushes. I found pictures of just about everyone I know on Lovejournal, funny that. Er, actually some pictures with a whole livejournal gathering.... cleaning up the courtyard that morning with rakes and muffins. anyone remember this? Of course ya do!
I'm so glad about the whole camera phenomenon. what a wonderful invention.
ATTN SM: Hey, if anyone *ahem* reads this who kept a journal, *ahem* maybe they can post another "this day in 1996" (hint hint).

12:24 pm - brainwashing affecting university experience
It's really amazing how this country is rewinding. The republican platform has infiltrated its propaganda into one too many ignorant minds. When young women in South Dakota are forced to rear unwanted children and, in many cases, the child products of rape and abuse after 30+ years of legal right to choose, I really have to question what's next. I'm not going to get into this -- anyone who knows me knows my views on the right to choose, and I respect all sides of the issue. This is just one example of our country's directed momentum. I feel lucky to live in such a progressive state and in one of the forward-thinking, most advanced areas of the world. South Dakota is one thing. It feels a bit far away. When New York starts crossing over and stepping backward, it really hits home.
In universities, there has always been controversy-- this is where action happens. Young minds, who are filled with new ideas and energy come together to make things happen. Protest rallies and innovative ideas have all sprung from these institutions throughout history. My mother has been a college professor at Nassau Community College for decades and she is full professor (the highest ranking) of English Comp, Women's Studies, Modern Poetry and Literature among others. In one of her classes she has been discussing, as she always has, the writing process and where ideas come from. One of the topics of choice this year has been the Vagina Monologues - a play also performed at several other colleges on long island this year. She has been discussing the context and concepts and what it's really about - identity - in her class. One of the students in her class has pressed charges with the dean, claiming she is discussing unfit material and has been taping her classes. She has also mentioned other stories and such (discussion of God, drugs etc...) that she found offensive that my mother uses to help her students pull from personal experiences in developing essays. Unbelievable! I can only imagine this is partially rooted in her parents' influences. This student wants to take my mother to court and to take this to Fox 5 news (the most falsified and conspired republican station available.) We don't know all the details yet. The funny thing is, in some of the student's journals, she discusses how she feels, and then notes - WHAT A GREAT TEACHER SHE THINKS MY MOTHER IS AND HOW MUCH SHE IS LEARNING. I don't understand how you can have the gall to sit in a woman's class, tape her, conspire, then tell someone how much you respect them.
Right now, my mom is preparing documentation and evidence that all material is part of the writing process. The chair of her department is 100% behind her and her tenured job is not threatened. Discussion of these topics is part of academic freedom and, I believe VITAL to the college experience. I feel sorry for these community college student who will be affected from restrictions placed on classroom discussions resulting from ignorant student's actions in the future. The English Department chair actually says this type of thing is happening more and more - a reflection of the state of religious and political backward thinking in our country.
On the upside, maybe some controversial publicity will help circulate her upcoming book. I can only hope some good will come of this. I feel so bad for this student. I can only imagine the brainwashing and influence she must have gone through to bring her this low. And, nothing bad will happen to my mother or her career. It will only make the student feel defeated and sorry after everything is all said and done.
Please encourage open discussion among peers. This close-mindedness is a disease that is spreading and needs to be stopped before it can do permanent damage. More to come :) Thanks
